Consultations
A consultation is the starting point for almost everything we do. It gives us the chance to examine your pet, talk through any concerns you have, and decide together on the best plan of care.
What to expect
A standard consultation lasts around 10 minutes. Your vet will ask about your pet’s history and any symptoms you’ve noticed, then carry out a thorough physical examination — checking eyes, ears, mouth, heart and lungs, abdomen, skin and coat, weight and overall body condition.
If further investigation is needed (such as blood tests, X-rays or longer procedures), your vet will discuss the options and costs with you before going ahead.
First consultation vs follow-up
A first consultation is for new problems or new patients — it allows time for a full history and examination.
A follow-up consultation is shorter and used for re-checks, suture removals, monitoring of an ongoing condition, or short discussions where your pet has already been seen recently for the same issue.
When to book
You should book a consultation if your pet:
- Is showing any signs of illness or pain
- Has had a change in appetite, thirst, weight, or behaviour
- Needs a vaccination, health check or pre-surgical assessment
- Needs a routine prescription review (every 6 months for most ongoing medication)
